We live in Dallas, and are part of a small group based church. We’ve been in a life group, community group, small group, whatever you want to call it, our entire marriage. We’ve met a lot of people and become like family in many ways. What does this have to do with stand up? Well, whenever I watch Nate, I feel like I know him. He could be one of the guys from small group who always has a good story to tell.
Nate Bargatze is just an ordinary guy from the South, who happens to be really good at clean cut, anecdotal comedy. He comes from a show biz family, though: his dad is a former clown turned full time magician.
Two years ago, at a set he was doing in New York, Jimmy Fallon was in the audience. He got a phone call and an invitation to come on the show. The day after that appearance, Jimmy called again and asked him to develop a sitcom with him. The show is still in the works, but since then he’s put out two Comedy Central Presents specials, and has made several more appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Maron.
In Rolling Stone Magazine, Marc Maron described Nate as a “comic who should be big” and Jim Gaffigan called him “one of the top up and coming comics” in Esquire. But if you haven’t met him yet, here are 9 times I felt like I knew Nate:
How things go down when you play a prank on a friend:
2. That time you’re floating in a river and see your wife’s ex-boyfriend…
3. “I don’t believe in Science”
4. How Nate and his wife plan to be ready for an in-home invasion:
5. His argument that men are not built for marriage:
6. His thoughts on the ‘Don’t Shake a Baby’ campaign:
7. Time Traveling
8. Hunting is easy:
9. How to Keep a Baby Humble:
