SNL with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler: Parents Guide

With Sisters in theaters this week, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were back in Studio 8H to host the final Saturday Night Live of 2015.  And they brought some friends, Maya Rudolph, who provided the best laughs, along with Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. Amy Schumer even made a filmed appearance.  For all the Christmas celebrity energy, it lacked something. And none of the clips made it to the Fine for Kids category, save the Santa Claus is Coming to Town song led by Bruce and friends. Here is our SNL Parent’s Guide:

FINE FOR KIDS

For More Kid-Friendly SNL Clips

WORD OF CAUTION

GOP Debate Cold Open -Donald Trump (Darrell Hammond), Sen. Ted Cruz (Taran Killam), Dr. Ben Carson (Jay Pharoah), Sen. Marco Rubio (Pete Davidson), Gov. Jeb Bush (Beck Bennett), Carly Fiorina (Cecily Strong), Sen. Rand Paul (Kyle Mooney) and Gov. Chris Christie (Bobby Moynihan) debate in Las Vegas. Fine, but politically boring for kids.

Hoverboards – If you hate walking and love fire, the hoverboard is for you.  From the same company that brought your plane lazers.  These hoverboards are no longer sold in stores because they keep blowing up. We passed on sharing with our kids.

DEFINITELY NOT FOR KIDS

Monologue – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler showcase their different personalities by performing a Christmas song featuring sections they each wrote.  Tina’s sings a “devoutly religious” Christmas song that could be offensive to those who do celebrate the birth of Christ.

A Hillary Christmas– Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) gets a visit from 2008’s Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler) and Sarah Palin (Tina Fey). There is an abbreviated cuss word.

Meet Your Second Wife – Hosts Helen Walsh (Amy Poehler) and Tina Fey introduce three contestants (Bobby Moynihan, Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson) to their future second wives.  This won the award for most clever idea for a sketch, but entirely NOT appropriate for kids. I even wondered about the kids in the actual sketch.

Movie Set with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler – A former acting coach on The Jeffersons (Kenan Thompson) gives two actresses (Tina Fey, Amy Poehler) terrible notes on a scene, where they confess they are lesbians.

Special Offer – Chad and Victoria Douglas (Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer) share Christmas highlights from their variety show. This was possibly the worst sketch of the night. Amy’s character is an addict and Tina’s character worked with Bill Cosby (is it too soon?).  But Maya Rudolph was Amazing!  Seriously, I was in awe. Watch her part.

Tina and Amy’s Dope Squad – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler introduce a reporter (Aidy Bryant) to their squad, which includes nannies, a gynecologist and Amy Schumer.

Brox Beat – Betty (Amy Poehler) and Jodi (Maya Rudolph) welcome Betty’s cousin Karen (Tina Fey) to the show and lament all of the bad news in the world.  We rate this the Best Clip of the Night. If not the season. But not to watch with kids.

But make sure to watch our 10 Best Clean Christmas Clips.  Merry Christmas!
