SNL with Chris Hemsworth: The 7 Best Clean Clips of the Night

I love AV Club for their honest and insightful Saturday Night Live reviews.  This week, they described Hemsworth as “not unfunny in any objectionable way. It’s more that he just doesn’t speak comedy.” But good news!  There were still several genuinely funny AND clean clips to be had this weekend.

FINE FOR KIDS

Extreme Skateboarding – ok, ok, this wasn’t actually a sketch, but an online exclusive.  But it was a charmingly clean clip and the “extreme” was surprising.

Star Wars Toys – Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys are great for everyone ages 6 and up – way up. This is the full length version, (I posted a shorter clip of it on Facebook yesterday).  Fun and clean.

Christmas Sing-Along – A couple (Chris Hemsworth, Cecily Strong) forces their friends (Sasheer Zamata, Kenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon, Taran Killam) to sing along to “Debra’s Time.”  Wow, Cecily can really sing. Stick with it to the end.

Pirate Ship – Three fearsome pirates (Chris Hemsworth, Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson) employ Mark (Jon Rudnitsky) to keep things light.

Chance the Rapper – I rarely include the musical guests, but Chance the Rapper’s two song selections were positive and clean.

WORD OF CAUTION

Brother 2 Brother: Wrestling Meet – Marky (Taran Killam) tries to take Matty’s (Chris Hemsworth) place at the big wrestling meet, but everyone immediately tells them apart. This clip is much cleaner than it’s version 1.0. [Butt] crack is the most offensive language.

George W. Bush Cold Open – President George W. Bush (Will Ferrell) announces he’s entering the presidential race and assesses the current crop of GOP candidates. This was a clean clip, but for current political topics, it’s just not worth sharing.

DEFINITELY NOT FOR KIDS

Monologue – Chris Hemsworth gets a little too comfortable with the cast during his second hosting appearance in a matter of months. For his monologue, which got bigger laughs as it went on, he took us on a backstage tour hazing each of the cast members.

Brunch – Four friends (Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong) suspect their friend Claire might actually be Chris Hemsworth. Boring, unoriginal premise.  And he used a derogatory word for women several times.

Male Strippers – Hunk Junktion’s new hires (Jay Pharoah, Taran Killam, Beck Bennett, Chris Hemsworth) mistake a stripper stage for a place to showcase their theater work.

Time to Bleed – Sgt. Polaski (Chris Hemsworth) doesn’t have time to bleed, or see a doctor.  A filmed piece that was probably the best of the night. Sasheer Zamata plays his partner and hits on with more and more blood-loss stupor. I enjoyed it a lot. But not for watching with my kids.

On the Record – Greta Van Susteren (Kate McKinnon) asks Sen. Ted Cruz (Taran Killam), Gov. Chris Christie (Bobby Moynihan) and Dr. Ben Carson (Jay Pharoah) to weigh in on Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims.

Next week, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return to co-host with musical guest Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.
